Selecting the Diffuser That’s Right For You

by in Consumer Tips, Diffusers July 27, 2020

There are so many diffusers on the market today, it may be a challenge to decide which one to buy.  In this article, I’ll provide a basic comparison of features and functions and how to select the best diffuser that’s right for you.
A number of factors come into play in considering the right diffuser. There are steam, hot-plate, and candle diffusers, that use heat to process your essential oils — not the best way of getting your fragrance in your space; but they may be right for you. Or you can pick a higher-end diffuser made of blown glass that uses vibration to diffuse your oils. They give you a little more control over your oil usage.

Some have night lights, some you can adjust the steam, the level of water in the reservoir can vary. You also need to consider the size of the room the diffuser will be in. And the right one for you, should meet your individual personal needs, while considering the people around you and the space you are diffusing in. The following is a comparison between the features of average diffusers and higher quality diffusers.

A Better Diffuser

An Average Diffuser

  • Easy to clean
  • Available in different sizes per the size of the rooms
  • Quiet running
  • Night Lights you can turn off and on
  • Glass, No plastic materials
  • Has no heating elements
  • Adjust how much mist you want.
  • A timer to release the right amount of oil or manage a run time.
  • A cycling unit that diffuses oils in in increments instead of continuously diffuse. This keeps the fragrance from being over- used and prevents over exposure.
  • Disperses enough aroma to scent a room in under 30 minutes.
  • Uses vibration to diffuse the molecules in the essential oils offers a better experience and less oil usage.
  • Rotating colors for variety.
  • Larger water reservoir for better defusing. Less baby-sitting and auto turn-off once diffusing ends
  • One clogs easily which makes cleaning difficult
  • One-size only
  • Noisy, making sounds that break concentration.
  • Often have night lights for a peaceful sleep.
  • Plastic pieces maybe good if children are around.
  • Fragile glass if there is a chance of breaking could be harmful.
  • No timer for shut-off/turn-on, may run out of water and use more oils than necessary.
  • Uses more oil then needed to arrive at the desirable scent level
  • Small water reservoir where water runs out faster.
  • Diffuses using heating elements takes longer and uses more oil. Oil is not burned if is diffused using vibration.
  • Rotating Colors for variety.
  • Distiller takes longer to get a scent.
